Letter From the Editors

As the weather turns warmer, people begin thinking about outdoor activities and vacations. But as employees’ minds turn to leisure-time activities, it’s important for you as a manager to keep your team focused and on task. At the same time, for your team to truly flourish, you need to promote a work-life balance to keep your staff happy and satisfied.

With this in mind, we’ve focused this issue of The Manager’s Minute on balancing summer fun and work. We’ve used this space to offer tips and tricks to help you and your staff enjoy the warm weather, while still remaining productive. Have a great month and remember to learn something every day.

Sincerely,

Tracy Benbrook & Brian Frederick

Management People Skills Tip:
When someone is angry, don’t interrupt. Ask, “Is there anything else you want to add?” Say, “What would make this situation better?” or “How can we improve the situation in a way we can both accept?” Have the person offer a solution. Repeat yourself as necessary, but don’t solve other people’s problems.
